The interest in CHL courses has been steadily increasing for the last several months, and many of my classes have been filling up a week or more ahead of time. I limit the size my classes. The size limit may differ for some classes, depending on things like which classroom I can get. For larger classes, I also have to arrange for another instructor to help with range testing. Unfortunately, I have been in the position of having to turn away folks who want to take my class, only to have several empty seats on the class date due to no-shows. That's just not fair to the people whom I had to turn away.
Because of this, I have come up with a pre-payment seat guarantee policy. I have made a effort to make this policy fair to the students, and as simple as possible so that it is easy for me to administer.
Seat guarantee and refund policy:
- If you pre-pay, you are placed on the roster as confirmed, if the class is not already full with confirmed students. Your fee will be $10 less than the at-the-door cost. If the class is already full with confirmed students, you will get your choice of a full refund or reassignment to another class date. I make an effort to keep my website up to date, but occasionally, I get several sign-ups in a very short time. Someday, in my "copious free time", I will install a "shopping cart" to solve that problem. I have the first pieces of that project done, but I still update the web page manually.
- If you don't pre-pay, you are placed on the roster as unconfirmed after the confirmed students, in the order you emailed your sign-up request. If you are in a position higher than the class limit, you are on the waiting list. If I have a waiting list, I will close out the roster the day before the class, and notify any applicants who did not make it. The price for the course at the door is $10 higher than the pre-payment price.
- If you pre-pay, and there are non-pre-paid seats left on the roster, you will be added as confirmed, and unconfirmed students will be moved up in position. If there are more than the class limit on the roster, the ones higher than the limit will be bumped to the waiting list and notified.
- If you cancel with 3 or more days notice, you will get a 100% refund. If there is a waiting list, I will move the first person on the waiting list to the available seat.
- If you cancel with less than three days notice, and I am still able to fill your seat, you will get a 100% refund, otherwise, you will get a refund less a $15 cancellation fee. The cancellation fee may be applied to a future class (2 month limit).
- If you just don't show up without cancelling, you will get a refund less a $30 no-show fee. $15 of the no-show fee may be applied to a future class (2 month limit).
- If the class is cancelled by me for any reason, every pre-paid student will get a 100% refund. So far, that's never happened, and I hope I never have to cancel a class, but emergencies sometimes happen.
Please note that I generally keep my PayPal account "swept", so in some cases, it may take me up to a week to process a refund. If you paid by check, I will refund by check after your check clears.
Family Member and Group Discount
Family member and group discounts are only available for pre-paid students. If you enroll pre-paid with another family member (spouse, child, parent, or "significant other"), you will recieve a $5/person "family member" discount. If you have a group of 3 or more people enrolling together (co-workers, friends, etc), you will get the same a $5/person "group discount" (this is not the same as a private class).
